Writing Prompt: Imagine you're writing a letter to your younger self. What advice would you give about pursuing your dreams, overcoming self-doubt, and staying consistent with your goals? Share a personal story or moment of growth that you wish your younger self had known about sooner.
Dear Nita (2002),
You don't know it right now, but you are going to accomplish some incredible things, fall in love with an amazing man, and meet some extraordinary people. These experiences will bring excitement, disappointment, and heartbreak, all of which will shape you into a strong and resilient woman.
This is an Actual depiction of future you...lol
Right now, you may not understand anyone 20+ years older than you, including your parents. Promise me you'll be easier on them. One day, you'll realize that some of the mistakes they made are ones you're destined to repeat if you don't take their wisdom seriously. I know you feel like you know everything and nothing at all at the same time — and that's okay. Soon enough, you'll discover that you know far less than you think, and you'll come to rely on God as your ultimate guide.
I know life feels uncertain right now. Everything seems so shiny and pure — but be careful. We have the tendency to chase after those shiny things, only to find they lose their luster when God isn't involved.
At this moment, I know you're searching for love wherever you can find it. The void you're trying to fill is inside of you. There's nothing greater than learning to love yourself — fully and deeply. No, we aren't perfect, but there's something magical about being perfectly imperfect.
I want to warn you about your blind spots — particularly when it comes to people. You have such a strong desire to please others, and sometimes you can't get enough of it. One day, that tendency will cost you some good things and people in your life. But trust me, you'll eventually learn to appreciate the gift of discerning toxic influences from God-sent blessings.
Before I sign off, I have to tell you — that peanut butter skinned cute boy with the glasses you met in freshman biology class? He actually becomes your husband. Not only have you built a strong marriage, but you've also been lifelong friends. Please remember to be gentle with him. Don’t take his unwavering love for granted — he cherishes you just as you are.
I won’t sugarcoat it — things won’t always be perfect. But I promise you’ll get through it all. Lean on God heavily, and never believe you've wandered so far from Him that you can’t find your way back. No matter what people may say to make you doubt yourself, know that you are a genuine and good person. You are capable of extraordinary things — but babe, you can only achieve them by stepping outside of your head and doing it scared.
I want you to know that I love you — deeply. I'm rooting for your glow up. There will never be anyone on this Earth who loves and admires you as much as I do.
P.S. Kiss and hug our grandmothers as much as you can. They won’t be here forever. ❤️
Love Always,
Nita (2025)
